Abstract
The effective dielectric constant of ethylene chloride is calculated from known dissociation constants of various ion pairs in ethylene and ethylidene chloride according to the method of Denison and Ramsey. The average value of the effective dielectric constant is used for the calculation of contact distances of various ion pairs in ethylene chloride. The variation of contact distance with size and structure of the ions is discussed. Keywords
