Abstract
The magnetic susceptibilities of compounds of the type Cu(RCO2)2 and Cu(RCO2)2L (where R is a substituted aryl group and L may be H2O, EtOH, pyridine, or α- or γ picoline) are discussed with reference to the pKa and steric effects of the carboxylic acid. E.s.r. spectra have in some cases been used to determine g-values for binuclear complexes and also to demonstrate the presence of mononuclear copper(II) impurities in many apparently analytically pure compounds. Values of the exchange integral J in the dinuclear complexes have been determined by using the variation of the magnetic susceptibility with temperature and the experimentally determined g-values.Keywords
