Abstract
Nitrogen dioxide was photolyzed at trace concentrations in a carrier gas at a pressure of 1 atmosphere. The concentration of atomic oxygen could be estimated by using rate constants previously obtained [H. W. Ford and N. Endow, J. Chem. Phys. 27, 1156 (1957)]. An iterative method was used to calculate the concentration of atomic oxygen in the presence of trace amounts of hydrocarbons. Rate constants for the reactions of atomic oxygen with various hydrocarbons are reported, together with other closely related rate constants reported previously.Keywords
