A Simple Trap for Collecting Newly Emerged Stoneflies (Plecoptera)

Abstract
A trap for collecting emerging stoneflies is described. Stoneflies enter between 2 hardboard panes placed close together, walk upwards on the inside of the pane and are trapped in a trough filled with preservative at the top of the trap. The trap is placed parallel to the stream and intercepts emerged stoneflies when they disperse from the river. Data from a study in northern Finland are given to indicate the total and species-specific capture rates of the trap.
