Abstract
A technique of injecting esophageal varices through a flexible fiberoptic gastroscope is described, and its value in controlling hemorrhage and eradicating varices in 34 patients is prospectively considered. Of the patients, 25% rebled during the 1st emergency admission after injections, but control was achieved in all. Subsequent rebleeding occurred in 46% and varices were ultimately eradicated in 59%. The procedure is apparently associated with fewer serious complications compared with rigid esophagoscopic techniques and may be as effective. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
