Abstract
Iodine and bromine have been determined in some biological materials by neutron activation analysis. These elements are extracted from irradiated samples with a 5 per cent. solution of trioctylamine in xylene, first the bromine being back-extracted with N sodium nitrate solution and then the iodine being back-extracted with N ammonia solution. The extraction yield is about 94 per cent. for iodine and about 86 per cent. for bromine. The limit of detection is about 0·01 µg for iodine and about 0·1 µg for bromine. The precision of the method is about ±6 per cent. for both elements for concentrations exceeding 0·1 p.p.m.
