Abstract
There has been a resurgence of interest during the last decade in the role that essential fatty acids and their metabolites play in a range of human diseases. Inflammatory disease of the skin has been one focus of this interest. This paper reviews the clinical evidence that dietary supplementation with n-6 essential fatty acids (of the linoleate series) influences the clinical manifestations of atopic eczema, and comes to the conclusion that gamma linolenic acid may be of benefit in this condition. Keywords
