Abstract
The first application of power vacuum interrupters to a heavy-duty automatic circuit recloser is described and its performance characteristics are assessed by test results. Many of the inherent limitations of interruption in oil do not exist with vacuum interruption and significant application advantages accrue as related to speed of interruption, maintenance-free life, simplicitv, capacitance switching, evolved faults, foundation requirements, and the absence of any fire or explosion hazards. Keywords
