Abstract
As new technologies in the form of CD‐I, DV‐I and IBM's AVC move forward it is appropriate to examine what choice they offer, what benefits they bring and what chance they have of being accepted. For training applications, establishing meaningful criteria which can be used to select technology on the basis of fitness for purpose is an exercise that often emphasises the technology itself rather than the training outcomes it can achieve. This paper attempts to present a more balanced view. Keywords
