Abstract
In this series of papers, the derivation of a conductance equation based on a new model for ions in solution is described. The model used is similar to that of Gurney. The equation describes transport in solutions containing any number of ionic species, of any valency type, and hence is suitable for use with symmetrical, unsymmetrical or mixed electrolytes. In particular, analysis of data for associated unsymmetrical salts is now made possible. In the first paper of this series, the model used and the derivation of relaxation field terms are described. For the purpose of comparison an equation based on the “primitive model” for ions is solution is also obtained. Keywords
