Abstract
A novel experimental technique has been used to study how charge carriers in superfluid helium produce quantized vortex rings. Measurements taken over a wide range of temperature, pressure, and impurity concentration reveal several new features of the vortexring transition, and indicate that some commonly made assumptions about the nature of the transition may need revision.
