Abstract
To the Editor: A previously healthy 70-year-old man reported that his left breast had been enlarging and sensitive for two months. History and physical examination provided no explanation for the 3-cm tender and mobile subareolar mass. The breast tissue was removed, and the pathological examination revealed benign gynecomastia. Ten months after the left mastectomy the right breast was found to be enlarged. Extensive examination and laboratory studies were performed, including measurement of liver enzymes and 24-hour collection of urine for measurement of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxysteroids, estrone, estradiol, and estriol levels and human chorionic gonadotropin.
