Abstract
The unfavorable balance against survival of the tubercle bacillus, which should result in eventual eradication of tuberculosis, pointed out by Dr. Wade H. Frost in 1937, is continuing in the U.S. as evidenced by further decreases in mortality, morbidity, and new infection rates. According to estimates based on current age-specific infection rates, new infection rates and derived case rates based on infections, there may be 33 million tuberculin reactors, 44,000 new cases, and 5,000 deaths from tuberculosis in 1977. New cases will be further concentrated in the ages over 45.
