Abstract
Microcalorimetric analysis of heat-production by single intact sporophylls from thermogenic male cones of two cycad species (Ceratozamia miqueliana H. Wendl. and Zamia furfuracea L. f.) showed an oscillatory behaviour for three consecutive days during pollen maturation and shedding. In sporophylls from C. rumphii Miq., a weakly thermogenic species with no maximum of heat-production, such oscillations were not detected. The presence of the alternative respiratory pathway in the sporophylls of the male cones of Zamia pumila L. has been demonstrated. Keywords
