VLS Growth Mechanism of Cd Crystals with Sn Impurities

Abstract
The Cd vapor pressure and the Cd–Sn liquid phase remaining on a spherical Cd primary crystal determine the final morphology of Cd crystals grown by the VLS (vapor-liquid-solid) mechanism with Sn impurities. The resulting crystals are pencil-shaped, whisker-shaped, or icosahedra with either the c or a growth axis.
