Abstract
The relative efficiency of production of UV light from linear flashtubes using microsecond excitation pulses has been investigated. With variation of xenon filling pressure an optimum pressure of 50 Torr of xenon is established. The UV output is found to be linearly proportional to the input energy to the flashtube and its time dependence is reported. The ablating wall mode of operation has been studied and found to give lower efficiencies-mechanisms reported for this are discussed. Keywords
