Population Movements of Adult Brachyptera risi (Plecoptera)

Abstract
Studies during 1 emergence and swarming season in a stream in East Jutland [Denmark] showed that emergence was equal in the investigated parts of the stream, but during the adult season a relative increase in the number of adults in the upstream direction occurred. Marking experiments indicated upstream movement. Catches of females on traps placed in the stream increased in the upstream direction. On the trap uppermost in the stream, the number caught on the downstream side exceeded that on the upstream side. There is a pronounced tendency for eggbearing females to fly upstream.
