Abstract
Besides the well‐known striated muscle fibers, the cremaster muscle of the guinea‐pig contains smooth muscle fibers, which appear either as isolated elements or as networks. These smooth muscle fibers are embedded within a matrix of the compact fibrous coat of collagenous connective tissue which covers the vaginal surface of the striated muscle layer. Presumably the smooth muscle fibers maintain the initial, fast contraction produced by the striated muscle fibers, thus attaining an economical, tonic elevation of the testicle. Keywords
