Abstract
The principle of equal reactivity of polymer species in a molecular distribution may be apparent rather than actual owing to relative insensitivity of the size distribution to variations in reaction rate constants. A formalism is developed for polymerization encompassing chain‐length‐dependent rate constants k(x). For linear and condensation polymers, a perturbation form of solution is outlined based upon the ad hoc assumption k(x) = k/xn, n being a parameter characteristic of the system. Keywords
