Abstract
Summary: The initial and on‐going assessment of individuals with dementia may not always fully reflect the expert knowledge of the caring situation that carers possess. In the absence of such knowledge a comprehensive and responsive assessment is unlikely to be achieved. This paper describes the development of a carer‐led assessment process (CLASP) which it is suggested provides a flexible framework for the assessment of need in carers of dementia sufferers. Keywords
