PROLONGED NASOTRACHEAL INTUBATION IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN

Abstract
SUMMARYExperience with a series of three hundred and thirty young patients who needed airway support is described- Earlier impressions that, in children under five years of age, prolonged pernasal intubation is a safe alternative to tracheostomy are confirmed. Good nursing, effective physiotherapy, and selection of the narrowest tube that ensures a quiet airway at rest are the essentials needed for a satisfaaory outcome.
