Abstract
350 [female] cases of obesity were studied. Inactivity occurred simultaneously with gain in body wt. in 67.5%; an increased food intake was found in but 3.2%; a long illness or convalescence produced inactivity in 64.3%; ovarian dysfunction as shown by abnormal menses or menopause was present in 50.6%. The incidence of obesity in myxedema, pituitary tumor and chronic encephalitis was high but adiposity antedated the malady in most instances. The ability of obese patients to lose weight on low caloric diets was shown.Keywords
