Spawning of Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrhynchus) was induced at the National Fish Hatchery, Orangeburg, South Carolina, by using acetone-dried sturgeon pituitaries collected 1 year earlier. Some eggs were spawned in a holding tank containing an injected male and female. Additional eggs were surgically removed from the same female and artificially fertilized. Both groups of eggs became heavily infected with fungus (Saprolegnia). Incubation time was 121-140 h at a water temperature of about 18°C. At hatching, total length was 7.1 mm and mean weight was 4 mg. Fry doubled in length during the first 15 days and attained a size of 11.5 cm and 4.6 g by day 131.
