Abstract
Some quantum-mechanical results describing the ionization of initially highly excited hydrogen atoms by a strong, circularly polarized microwave field are presented. A simplified two-dimensional model of the atom is used. Discrepancies between various classical estimates for the low-frequency ionization threshold are resolved. Keywords
