CINE-CHOLANGIOMANOMETRY: PHYSIOLOGIC OBSERVATIONS

Abstract
1. Cine-cholangiomanometry serves to supplement conventional T-tube cholangiography by the demonstration of the common duct in its functioning phases under varying choledochal pressures. 2. This modality will demonstrate the mechanism of action of the sphincter choledochus which consists of a contractile or systolic phase and a relaxation or diastolic phase. 3. The morphologic changes and duration of each of these phases are recorded in normotensive and induced hypertensive states. With increasing pressures, the interval of each phase of the cycle is prolonged. 4. Serial cine-cholangiom anometry offers a method of distinguishing between edematous functional obstruction and organic fibrous obstruction in the vaterian segment. 5. Observations relative to pain production and the mechanism of pancreatic duct filling are discussed.
