Abstract
Nurses' impressions of a hypothetical patient, labeled an alcoholic, were strongly influenced by their negative stereotypic views of alcoholics. Nurses responded more favorably to the same "patient" when he was not labeled an alcoholic even though the behavior of the patient was held constant. Keywords
