Exergy Analysis of Viable Options for Steam/Water Injection in Gas Turbines

Abstract
Steam or water injection in gas turbines has become a proven technique for improving output, emissions control, and, in some cases, even efficiency in powerplants. A parametric analysis based on the second-law approach is conducted for some of the most promising injection schemes, e.g., STIG and regenerative-evaporative cycles with and without compressor intercooling. After an examination of the potentials and limits of each solution, a new scheme, PSTIG, is proposed, which combines the major advantages of steam injection and combined gas/steam cycles and, in addition, offers superior peakload capability.
