Abstract
A probe‐type ultrasonic vibrator was used to disperse, without chemical pretreatments, samples of three soils developed from volcanic ash. The efficiency of dispersion by ultrasonic vibration was evaluated using curves of percent clay or sand vs. vibration time along with electron micrographs of sand (50–2000 µm), coarse silt (20–50 µm), and clay (2 was sufficient to disaggregate the soils without significantly damaging primary sand‐ and silt‐sized glass shards or destroying imogolite threads in the clay fraction. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
