Abstract
After a brief introduction a general account is given of the main phenomena associated with electronic magnetic resonance. Two chapters on line width and experimental technique review the problems involved in detection of the resonance phenomena. A short account of the theory of paramagnetism of the solid state follows, leading to a derivation of the spin-Hamiltonian. The importance of the latter as a method of describing the resonance results is emphasized, the discussion proceeding in terms which are, as far as possible, independent of the underlying theory. The ions of the iron (3d) group and the rare earth (4f) group are then surveyed individually in terms of the spin-Hamiltonian. The influence of exchange interaction is treated in a separate chapter, and the review ends with a brief account of resonance in gases and other special compounds. Keywords
