Abstract
Recent work on the thermodynamics of metallic solutions has produced information which cannot be obtained from an analysis of the various phase diagrams alone. Selected binary solution systems will be discussed with a view towards illustrating the influence on the excess thermodynamic properties of a difference in the size, the electronegativity and the characteristic valence of the two solution partners. Particular attention will be given to the effect of valence on the enthalpy of mixing in terminal solutions of group B metals, and to the general problem of the excess entropy of mixing in metallic solution systemsKeywords
