A Study of the Immunocytoadherence Test in the Serology of Experimental Sporotrichosis

Abstract
The immunocytoadherence (ICA) test was used for the detection of an immune response in animals with sporotrichosis. Two groups of 12 male Hartley guinea pigs, injected intrascrotally with 4 × 108 viable cells of Sporothrix schenckii and kept in a room at 10 C, developed a localized infection. Rosettes appeared during the acute stage of the infection and disappeared during the healing process. The detection of these circulating, antibody-producing cells indicated that immunoglobulins had been produced against S. schenckii. These results suggest that the ICA test warrants further investigation as a serologic method for the detection of an immunologic response in human sporotrichosis.
