Abstract
Individual Research Consultation Service (IRCS) has long played an important role in teaching and assisting students to find information resources. Based on a study of IRCS at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Library, this article discusses the important contributions IRCS has made to the information literacy (IL) program. Using quantitative data and qualitative evidence, the article demonstrates how the IRCS has supplemented and enhanced the formal IL program at CSUSM. Further the author argues that if formally recognized as a component of the IL program, IRCS will play a more prominent role in building student information competency skills. Keywords
