Abstract
The Fong-Cohen empirical pseudopotentials for Cu and Nb are shown to be close approximations to a member of a family of pseudopotentials which also includes Harrison's first-principles pseudopotentials for transition metals. The lack of energy dependence in the Fong-Cohen potential is discussed and partly explained. Keywords
