Abstract
We have studied the emission of a far‐infrared interband p‐germanium laser using a terahertz range Schottky diode detector. The temporal structure of the emission was investigated with a resolution of 250 ps. We observed short intense spikes that arose due to laser mode beating. The mode structure of the laser emission was obtained by transforming the temporal signal into the frequency domain. It was found that four transversal modes were excited during the laser action. The frequency separation between transversal and longitudinal modes was 52.6 and 657 MHz, respectively. Keywords
