Abstract
Adsorption isotherms of different types of sludges from the same treatment plant were obtained by loading them upto thousand fold excess of copper and zinc separately. The sudden increase in the bound metal at higher concentration is probably due to the precipitation of basic carbonates which is reflected in the speciation profile. In general sludges were found to have higher affinity for copper than zinc. However, activated sludge exhibited greater capacity for zinc. Keywords
