Abstract
Blood pH in 7 patients with hypoparathyroidism tended to be elevated, varying between 7.43 and 7.54. This tendency toward alkalosis is probably due to the absence of parathyroid hormone and the resultant absence of its effect on hydrogen ion generation and retention. The tendency toward alkalosis may contribute to increased bone density in hypoparathyroidism.
