Abstract
Cutaneously administered 2% nitroglycerin had a statistically significant pharmacologic action for up to 8 h after drug administration. The prolonged action of this route of administration of this potent vasodilator allows the drug to be administered at widely spaced intervals and 24-h effectiveness can probably be achieved with application of the ointment every 8 h. In addition to the demonstrated benefits of this agent in angina pectoris, the possibility of utilizing this vasodilator for afterload reduction in congestive heart failure should be further explored with appropriate clinical trials. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
