Abstract
The infrared spectrum of gaseous methyl nitrite has been taken between 2 and 24 μ. Very intense absorption bands were observed and attributed to fundamental frequencies of the molecule. All the bands appear to be double, and this doubling is explained by the existence of two forms of the molecule (rotational isomerism). This hypothesis was checked by a study of the temperature dependance of the intensity of the bands.
