Group Therapies for Nursing Home Adults: An Evaluation of Two Treatment Approaches

Abstract
In two proprietary nursing homes residents were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: task-oriented group, insight-oriented group, or waiting-list control group. Measures of psychosocial competence were administered to 59 residents at pretest and at posttest 12 weeks later. Participants in the task condition increased in internal locus of control and life satisfaction; those in the insight condition increased in internal locus of control and trust relative to a decrease in trust for controls.
