Abstract
The infrared absorption spectrum of solid trimethylphosphine oxide has been obtained over the range 450 to 5000 cm−1. A vibrational assignment is proposed for nearly all the bands observed in the infrared spectrum as well as for the Raman frequencies observed in aqueous solution. It is shown that the fundamental frequencies of the skeletal vibrations are compatible with reasonable values of the force constants for phosphorus‐oxygen and phosphorus‐carbon bonds. Keywords
