Abstract
Seven Agreed Syllabuses of Religious Education have been published in England since the Education Reform Act became law in 1988. These syllabuses are a focus of interest for many local education authorities because they are the first to give public expression to the new criteria for religious education which are set out in the Act. This article explores the impact of the reforms on these new syllabuses and investigates the extent to which they have also been influenced by the statutory requirements placed on National Curriculum subjects. Keywords
