Abstract
The authors studied the effect of prior injections of cortisone on the course of experimental syphilis in guinea pigs infected intra-dermally, intratesticularly and intravenously. Cortisone administration was begun on the seventh day before infection, and the guinea pigs received cortisone in daily doses of 7.5 mg/kg for 48 days. Cortisone prolonged the incubation period and shortened the duration of lesions only in the animals infected intradermally. The same dosage had no effect on animals infected by the other above stated routes. Serologic tests and infectivity of organs were not affected by the administration of cortisone.
