Inhibition of Methylcholanthrene Carcinogenesis by Hypophysectomy

Abstract
Of 15 normal adult female rats which had methylcholanthrene pellets implanted in their right gastroc-nemius muscles, 8 developed rapidly growing sarcomas of skeletal muscle type 195-299 days later. Of 15 similar, but hypophysectomized rats, treated identically, only 1 developed a sarcoma. Of the control groups (15 normal, untreated; 15 hypophysectomized, untreated) none developed sarcomas.
