Abstract
A rare type of nevus was first described by Selhorst1in 1896 under the title naevus acneiformis unilateralis. The first instance of the condition recognized in the United States was reported by White2in 1914, under the title naevus follicularis keratosus. In the foreign literature similar cases have been recorded occasionally, under descriptive names such as naevus acneiformis (Bettmann3),naevus acnéique unilatéral en bandes et en plaques(Thibierge4), systemized sebaceous gland nevus (Mayr5), naevus unilateralis comedo-follicularis (Hodara6) andnaevus zoniforme à comédones(Montpellier et Colinieu7). Others have reported undoubted examples of this nevus, and mention should be made of the cases reported by Aoichi,8Meirowsky,9Klein,10Barber11and Anderson.12 This nevus was thoroughly and ably described by Sweitzer and Winer13under the title naevus unilateralis comedonicus in October 1932.
