A palladium–lead bonded complex

Abstract
The preparation of a new metal–metal bonded PdII complex formulated as trans-[Pd(PEt3)2(PbPh3)2](I) is described. The reactions of (I) with hydrogen chloride, hydrogen, cyanide, and oxygen lead to cleavage of the intermetallic bond. A peculiar feature of this organolead–palladium(II) complex is its ability to promote the oxidation of isobutyl alcohol to aldehyde in the presence of molecular oxygen. A comparative discussion of the stability of PdII and PtII metal–metal bonded complexes of type (I) is reported.
