Abstract
Forty-one patients with various infections were treated with cefuroxie and there were 29 cures, 9 improvements and 3 failures. In 9 patients the infecting organism was a Proteus spp. indole +ve; 7 cured and 2 improved. There were no side effects or toxicity. Mean peak concentrations of cefuroxime in serum after i.m. doses of 500 mg, 750 mg and 1000 mg were (in μg/ml) 24.8, 27.o and 33.0 respectively; 5 min after 1000 mg i.v. mean serum leaves were 143 μg/ml. Mean terminal serum half lives ranged from 63.7 to 115 min. Urinary recovery was 80 t0 85% agter i.m. injections and 95 to 100% after i.v. injections. In vitro activity of cefuroxime against 370 consecutive clinical isolates was far superior to that of cephalothinKeywords
