Evidence based nursing: easier said than done

Abstract
Nursing’s weak research base and the current emphasis on randomised control trials as the gold standard, presents many challenges for nurses wishing to develop evidence for practice. using a project to evaluate the effectiveness of pre-operative preparation with calico dolls as an example, Christine english and Senga Bond highlight the problems that nurses face Nurses, along with other healthcare professionals are being urged to provide evidence based health care (1). 'Evidence based practice’ and 'clinical effectiveness’ have become the latest buzz words with new journals, conferences, courses and even a task force now sporting these titles. It is recognised that working towards such ideals presents some taxing challenges, nevertheless we are asked to treat them as priorities (1-3).
