Abstract
Interactions between optical beams incident upon and generated within a photorefractive material are investigated by numerically solving a set of nonlinear coupled differential equations. The mechanism of the emergence of a higher diffraction order is explored. In particular, it is shown that, under favorable conditions, a significant amount of power may be transferred to the nearest higher-order wave. Keywords
