Abstract
Summary: A new species of Clarias, C. foveolatus nov., from deep water in Lake Nyasa, is described and figured. Other new clariids occur, probably constituting with the known endemic forms a species‐flock of about eight species.Researches indicate that a distinction should be drawn between those fishes which inhabit Lake Nyasa and those which occur in adjoining rivers and swamps, but seldom or never in the open lake. Of the seven species of Clarias listed from Lake Nyasa three scarcely occur in the lake proper, one more sparingly than has previously been supposed, and the three species which occur most abundantly are all endemic. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
