Abstract
We use combined second-sound attenuation and temperature-gradient measurements to determine the vortex line density, anisotropy, and the drift of the vortex tangle as a whole in counterflowing helium II from 1.27 to 2.10 K. We find a much higher probability for vortex lines in the tangle to be transverse to the flow than along the flow. We also find that, at least below 2.1 K, the vortex tangle drifts with the superfluid toward the heater. Keywords
